The 2011 planning committee for the Northern Virginia Pagan Pride Day has just announced that it will feature author Dorothy Morrison as guest presenter and speaker. Morrison is the author of over a dozen books on magic and witchcraft as well as an award-winning novel, Lucinda's Web. Besides her writings, she also produces a line of Witch-related crafts and materials for her company Wicked Witch Mojo. She lives in Northern Virginia currently.
The PPD committee confirmed this morning that Morrison will teach a workshop on money magic shortly after the main ritual of the day. Though the schedule is being confirmed in the coming month, the organizers have several other interesting speakers scheduled including ceremonial magicians and a massage therapist/energy worker.
We will keep you updated as more details about Northern Virginia and DC's Pagan Pride Days unfold through the summer months.

Bummer. Dorothy's latest adventures in HEXOLOGY go against the standard Wiccan Rede. I would not trust someone who selling potions to hex people to come and REPRESENT Pagan Pride. When I asked Dorothy about this she stated she has not been a Wiccan in a long time. I am a PPD coordinator as well, and do not see her as appropriate to our cause. Hope you are not paying her a lot.
ReplyDeleteI just might have to take a trip back home to NoVA to see her! Love Dorothy, all her writings and her products. And in response to the above comment, Michelle, you have to remember that not all Pagans are Wiccans and some do not follow the rede in the same way that you do. That is the great thing about our individual paths! I hope she does amazing, sells everything she brings with her and knocks peoples socks off with what she has to say. I know she has before and I can't wait to see her do it again. Brightest blessings!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with the other posts here. Wicca is a new creation, the Rede being taken from Christian practice, and Karma coming from Hinduism.
ReplyDeleteTraditional Witchcraft is a totally separate practice from Wicca, although Wicca incorporates many practices of Witchcraft.
Dorothy is a Witch. As such she does accurately represent a part of what Paganism is. There are also a large number of Pagans who do use hexes in their practice, and they shouldn't be excluded from PPD and they also deserve to have someone speaking on their behalf.
Who knows, one day you might have to resort to cursing someone as well. Don't say it won't happen. It very well can. Just wait until someone does something so incredibly out of line, unforgivable, horrific to you...you won't be worrying about the Rede then, you will be worrying about making absolutely certain they won't do that to anyone else again.
The Anonymous comment was me, selected the wrong "comment as" option
ReplyDeleteI presume the original poster's comments indicate that she will not be traveling to NoVa PPD due to her disappointment.... or the drive from New Mexico? Methinks the green-eyed cat is a bigger issue than any hexes here. Don't approve of hexes? Don't cast one.
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of the Pagan Pride Project and Regional Coordinator for Ohio Vally (I don't cover Virginia-- Carla who is the RC is on personal leave right now) we must apologize for this intrusion by another Local Coordinator here. This matter has been brought to our attention and the Board of Directors have now been made aware of it. In our Ethical Code of Conduct we do NOT discriminate against others and this includes presenters who do this for free or for pay. If you have any further questions about this matter, please email at ohiovalleyrc@yahoo.com -- Peace be to all of your fine folks there in Virginia!
ReplyDeleteI have known Dorothy Morrison for more than 12 years, when I was a PPD Coordinator she donated cash to my event, I have sat with her at events through rain and shine, and this is one of the few authors that as I educate my child on the path, I offer her books liberally. I consider her a wonderful person and HOORRAAAYYYY to ANY event lucky enough to have her on the program! GO DOROTHY! A Former Wiccan/Now General PAGAN! I take from all paths and leave what does not fit!
ReplyDeleteMIchelle-
ReplyDeleteYou must be very lucky. I envy you the luxury of never needing a spell powerful enough to right a wrong, catch a criminal or protect a loved one. I have used several of Dorothy's spells to great benefit. You obviously don't know Dorothy, but since I do, I can honestly say, you don't have a clue.
Mind the Rede, baby.
I am Brian Ewing, president of the Pagan Pride Project. Michelle's comment is her own and does NOT represent the view of the project as a whole. (Obviously since NOVAPPD invited MS. Morrison to speak.) Please direct questions to me. Bewing13@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian for your words-- at least this way they can come directly to you instead.
ReplyDeleteDorothy, you totally rock out my Lady! Thank you for your kindness and generosity over these years.
Look at who's got the red shoes now.... lol
