Breaking: Esoterica Closing Shop
We have just received word that Sterling metaphysical shop Esoterica is closing its doors for the final time, possibly as soon as Wednesday. Many might recall that the store closed briefly while in Leesburg, but was relocated to Sterling shortly after.
From Esoterica's Facebook note:
"...the crux of the matter is that we have been unable to meet our bills with the sales we have made, and the landlord really does want his rent (can't blame them there - that is how they stay in business too ;-> ) Since there has been no real upward movement since we opened in the fall - and even worse months - we can no longer meet our financial obligations and therefore have to close the doors on Esoterica."
The shop also reports that it will continue to sell a few items online after the closing in addition to making some appearences at various festivals and upcoming conventions. No word on what events those will be.
It is always heart-breaking to see another Pagan shop fall in the face of a suffering economy and an increasing popularity in new age discount retailers.
The note continues:
"Unfortunately at this same time we will be very short handed, so I am also requesting your patience with myself and the staff as we process your purchases. If you can - please come at varying times of the day and not all at 7:30 at night ;-> While our doors are still open we will try to have readers available when we can - so if you have a favorite reader and Sterling is convenient for you - this might be a very good time to come in a get a reading (bring cash to help reduce confusion there please.)
We have no idea as of this moment if I will be open past Wednesday - I am hoping that they will give us a few more days, or even better, to the end of September so we can clear out as much of the stuff here as possible - which would be to everyone's benefit."
We will keep you updated as news of Esoterica's closing plan develops.

That is sad - I've been very fond of them, and loved the place the one time I was able to visit.
ReplyDeleteV sad to see Esoterica go.
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when your prices are too high. It's your own fault for not selling your merchandise at prices buyers can afford. Having tried to purchase several items from your Leesburg store at a slightly discounted price, I was always told that the owner will not come down in price which was ALWAYS severely inflated to begin with. Would love to feel sorry for you but something tells me you have not learned any lessons based on your prices at the Sterling store.
