Samhain Around the Capital

Please share with loveOctober is officially over and the busiest month of our year locally is coming to a close. Makeup was applied, altars were set up and torn down, and the names of the Beloved Dead were spoken. Still, there are more events on the way. Becoming will be holding their Journey to the Underworld on Saturday as well as Connect DC's ritual, on Saturday also.

A first time event of this year was the DC Witches Ball put on by the Open Hearth Foundation. The event more than sold out with around 100 people in attendance altogether. Featuring a costume contest, tarot readers, a labyrinth maze and more, the effort that the organization put into this event was clearly displayed.

And though it came to a rainy close, the beloved annual tradition of drumming at the Jefferson Memorial pressed on like an old, loyal friend. (photos by Eric Eldritch)

At my own home on Samhain night, I held an intimate Dumb Supper with close friends to honor the ancestors and ring in the Witches New Year. Food and family- what more could one want?

  1. CDC's Samhain is Sunday, 11/6, not Saturday, 11/5. Just FYI.
