In an effort to assess the needs, challenges, barriers, and perceptions of risk faced by Pagans/Witches/Heathens that influence their ability to practice and to determine variations within different segments of the community, Dr. Gwendolyn Reece of American University is conducting the Pagan/Witch/Heathen Community Needs Assessment Survey for 2012.
Dr. Reece is a Witch who has been practicing since the mid-1980s and a faculty member at American University. Says Dr. Reece, "The primary intention of this study is to get information back out to the community so that we can figure out how best to build structures that support our practices and help us overcome barriers that we face as Pagans/Witches/Heathens."
The goal is to have at least 2,000 Pagans/Witches/Heathens age 18 and older who reside in the United States take this survey to provide quality data for assessment. Dr. Reece notes, "The more respondents I receive from across the country, the better the information will be and the more useful the analysis that I will share."
Among other questions, the survey asks questions regarding ease of access to clergy, resources, and gatherings.
The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed here. The survey will be available until May 1st, 2012.

Thanks for letting me have a voice.

I've known Dr. Reece since way before she was a Dr.--and she was a witch then. Please support her research--it's going to be good!
ReplyDeleteTaken and I tweeted out this post!
ReplyDeleteFrustrating experience. At the beginning of the survey, it gives Dr. Reece's e-mail in case I have questions or comments. I didn't, at that point, so I didn't write it down. But now that the survey is over, there are one or two things I wanted to mention ... but Survey Monkey doesn't want me to see that page again, presumeably lest I try to retake the survey!
ReplyDeleteHello Maggie:
DeleteMy email is greece@american.edu. Please feel free to get in touch.
Thank you so much for gathering and publishing (eventually) research on our population, Dr. Reece! I hope that the responses give both us and the general public a better idea of who and what we are!
ReplyDeleteHaving technical difficulties - got up to question 21-32 and now just goes to error page "Page not found". Hopefully it's because you're overwhelmed with survey takers!
ReplyDeleteI just took your survey. Thank you for letting me to participate
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie,
ReplyDeleteThe e-mail address is greece@american.edu.
And to Anonymous #2, yes, there's been a lot of interest in it this evening--the survey might hit halfway to the goal of responders this evening, in fact. (But keep passing the word around, because more data points = better data analysis!) If you find it isn't working this evening, please try again at a later time! This such a good project, and we're all so proud of her!
It's about time someone started studying this kind of thing on a national level. Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dr Reese, for undertaking this project, and for letting me have a voice. I hope you have a fantastic response to your survey!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to participate in this survey until Latino/Hispanic is added as one of the choices under "Ethnicity." We are over 16% of the population of the U.S.A. We are NOT an "Other."
ReplyDeleteI hope other Latinos will also refuse to participate until this change is made.
It has been changed. I am so sorry about this and am so glad that you contacted me. I am mortified that I didn't catch this in all of my proof-reading. I had copied the categories for ethnicity from the federal categories and then changed Hispanic to Latino/Chicano because I know many Latinos find the term "Hispanic" offensive and I must have neglected to hit save. I am so very sorry about that.
DeleteThank you for rectifying the error. I really appreciate that you took care of it so quickly.
DeleteI just took the survey. I, too, appreciate Dr. Reece's work!
ReplyDeleteOne of our number just pointed out to me that I had left Latinos off of the ethnicity group. I want to give my very, very sincere apologies. That was an accident and, having proof-read this thing a million times, I am mortified that I missed it. I had copied the ethnicity categories from the feds and had changed Hispanics to Latino/Chicano and must have forgotten to hit save. I am so very sorry. I have added it now and am thankful for the person who pointed it out to me.
ReplyDeletecompleted the survey. interested in the results. thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat article and review of online surveys. I have been doing online surveys for over 3 years and yes you can get paid by these companies.
ReplyDeleteSample Survey Questions
Thank you for this survey. I'm interested in knowing the results and will be mentioning this to my friends in the Pagan realm online. How long is this survey open?
ReplyDeleteHaving trouble accessing the survey. I signed into SurveyMonkey and then it tells me, "you have no surveys to take right now.
ReplyDeleteWe'll email you as soon as a new survey is available for you."
I am interested in taking it if I can figure out how to access it.
This is a superb survey, comprehensive in its breadth and depth, yet also very efficient time wise. I heartily recommend this survey
